Teen dies in sea in Skegness in tribute to ‘dear’ man, 21, who drowned in lake

A teenage boy has died in the sea off Skegness hours after a 21-year-old man drowned in a Doncaster lake – bringing the death toll from the UK heat wave to 23.

Emergency services rushed to report that ‘a child under 16’ was in the water around 6.15 pm on Saturday.

A search was conducted by police officers and the Coast Guard before the boy’s body was tragically recovered around 11:30 p.m. last night.

It comes just hours after a man’s body was recovered from a lake in Doncaster last night.

An air ambulance landed as an urgent search was launched following reports that a man had ‘fallen into the water’ in Lakeside, Doncaster, around 4:10 pm.

But South Yorkshire Police later confirmed a body had been found in the lake.

He has been referred to locally as Jay Walker, today described as a ‘sweetheart’ by heartbroken friends and family.

No further details about the teen have been released at this time.

Lincolnshire Police Chief Inspector Lee Pache said: ‘We received a large number of calls yesterday for missing people on the coast.

“At one point, we got ten calls within two hours.

“All the people reported missing, except for the child who sadly died, were found safe and sound. Our thoughts are with the boy’s family.’

Just over two hours earlier, Mr. Walker ran into trouble at a lake in Doncaster.

Witness Lynne Lawrence said she heard a police plane circulating for half an hour and later saw a helicopter land.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: ‘We are very sorry to report that a body has now been found following previous information about an incident at Lakeside, Doncaster.

“Emergency services rushed to the lake around 4:10 p.m. after receiving calls that a man in his twenties had gotten into trouble in the water.

“No formal identification has yet taken place. The man’s family has been informed and is assisted by specialized agents.’

Tributes for the young man are pouring in from friends and family on social media.

Skye Marie Bowers wrote: ‘To the world you may have been just someone, but to all of us you were the world. God really takes the best people.’
