The entry-level vivo Y18 debuts in India with “the brightest display in the segment”, IP54 rating

Previous premium features are trickling down to mid-range and even entry-level devices at a steady pace, and the new vivo Y18 can certainly testify to that. The phone was silent listed on vivo without any fuss on its Indian website, and it comes with a premium-looking design on the back, which uses a 3D micro-sculpture process in the Gem Green variant, cutting silver ripples into the back plate. Combined with an nm-scale coating, the result is a gemstone-like texture, hence the colorway's name.

There's also the more subdued Space Black, which has a subtle 'starry night' look when you look closer. The Y18 also comes with stereo speakers and an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, as well as a 50MP main rear camera.

It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button, and what is vivo's brightest display in the segment, with a top speed of 840 nits in High Brightness mode. That doesn't sound like much for an OLED panel, but this is an LCD screen, so the performance is quite excellent. Plus, you get “real eye protection” certified by TUV.

The display is 6.56 inches with a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 720 x 1612. The phone is powered by MediaTek's Helio G85 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64/128GB of expandable storage. The selfie shooter is 8MP and the Y18 has a 5,000mAh battery with 15W wired charging support. The phone runs Android 14 with vivo's Funtouch OS 14 on top and measures 163.63 x 75.58 x 8.39mm and weighs 185 grams.
