Powerful earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale strikes one of Australia’s closest neighbours

A powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit two Indonesian islands.

The earthquake occurred off the south coast of East Java province, at a depth of 10 kilometers and 305 kilometers southwest of Denpasar, Bali.

The earthquake was not expected to generate a tsunami, Indonesiathe country’s Geophysical Bureau reported.

Local authorities are checking for damage caused by the quakes, which are strongly felt in the province of East Java and Bali

The earthquake is the third to hit the region in recent weeks.
