Thomas Tuchel's decision to sign Harry Kane Bayern MunichThe defeat against Real Madrid is crushing Owen Hargreaves and labeled as 'arrogant' by Paul Scholes.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the Champions League semi-final after the first leg, Bayern were on course to cause an upset in Madrid when Alphonso Davies scored the opener in the 68th minute on Wednesday evening.

The Germans were still ahead after 85 minutes when Tuchel replaced the England captain and brought on Eric Choupo-Moting.

From then on everything went terribly wrong for Bayern, with Real Madrid substitute Joselu scoring twice in the dying minutes to send his team to the top. Champions League final where they will face Borussia Dortmund.

Former Bayern midfielder Hargreaves was baffled by the decision to remove Kane when Bayern could have easily scored in the next few minutes, and that is exactly what happened.

'I tell you what was unexpected, Harry Kane off the field,” Hargreaves told TNT Sports. “That's one of the biggest subs I've ever seen in a football match of that magnitude.

'To beat someone who has scored 44 goals, who is the most durable player almost everywhere. And get another striker in Choupo-Moting. Maybe he wanted height for the corners, I don't know… you can't take it off!

'There are five minutes left, maybe ten minutes of stoppage time, fifteen minutes left. I immediately said: Real Madrid is going to score. And then what?

“That's one of the biggest calls I've seen, I don't know why they made that call. I love Tuchel, but… the subtitles, everyone will talk about that. You can't impeach Harry Kane.'

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes suggested it was a touch of arrogance from Tuchel who thought the game was over.

“In some ways it's almost like an arrogant substitute,” he said. 'I think I can afford to take your biggest goalscorer and biggest threat off the pitch and still go on and beat Real Madrid.

'Even if they had scored one goal, there is still half an hour to play [extra-time]. There is still a long way to go without your best players on the field.

'They always tried to score goals on the counter-attack and I thought Harry Kane was perfect for that, I mean more playing other people.'
