TikTok star Dr. Kimberley Nix has died at the age of 31, three years after being diagnosed with metastatic disease sarcoma.
The 31-year-old doctor became famous social media in 2021 when she, then 28 and in her last three of her core internal medicine residency, started documenting her cancer journey online.
She confirmed the news of her own death on Wednesday in a devastating video shared with her 137,000 followers on TikTok.
In a clip that has been viewed more than six million times, she said: “Hello followers, if you see this message, I passed away peacefully.
“For those of you who don't know me, my name is Kim, hi! It's so nice to meet you and you are welcome to check out all the cool sarcoma facts, information and my lived experience with death and dying from sarcoma cancer.
“You don't have to go just because you're new.”
Nix, who married her husband Michael MacIsaac in February, told fans she had a “very beautiful life.”
“Those who know me know that I love my pets, my husband and makeup. And even though being a doctor is a big part of my identity, those are the things that matter,” she said. “So get ready with me one last time.”
She also reflected on the items she managed to check off her “bucket list” before her death.
What is metastatic cancer?
- According to the NHS, soft tissue sarcoma is 'a rare cancer that can start almost anywhere in the soft tissue of the body'
- Soft tissues include muscle, fat, blood vessels, ligaments and tendons
- The most common symptom is a lump 'somewhere on your body', which is usually deep under your skin
- It is usually firm to the touch, painless, and difficult to move under the skin
- The lump will grow and may become painful
“I had to get engaged, get married, I went to New York City, and it was like Gossip Girl,” she recalls. “I was dining at Michelin-starred restaurants, which was so cool. I also went to Broadway, which was a dream of mine.'
She could also go to the “mountains, San Francisco and a winery.”
She called her husband her “most beautiful love” and broke down in tears when talking about their relationship.
“My only sadness about dying is that we won't grow old together,” she admitted. “Everything else is completely bearable. That's all that really matters.'
Nix also thanked everyone for giving her the opportunity to “find so much meaning” after her diagnosis.
She added: “I love you all, thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity. I am in tears of joy because you helped me find so much meaning at the end of my life.'
In the caption of the video, Nix revealed how the support of her followers gave her strength during her illness.
My journey here is over and I can't thank you all enough. You all have made me so happy and your comments and support are more than enough to help anyone get through anything,” she wrote.
'If you would like, donate to sarcoma cancer research via my link in bio and follow my husband [Michael MacIsaac] in his updates.'
