A 10-year-old girl has tragically died in a devastating house fire from which her mother and three siblings managed to escape.

Police have launched an investigation into the horrific Bank Holiday fire that ripped through a property on a residential street in Bradford, West Yorkshire, at 1am this morning.

The schoolgirl died after flames broke out in the bedroom she shared with her two sisters, aged 11 and 6, who escaped the fire along with their three-year-old brother.

Their mother, 37, was carried from the property and rushed to hospital with the three other survivors, where they are currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The children's father, a teacher at a university in Bradford, was not at the property at the time of the tragedy.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene, where a cordon is currently in place as officers work with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire.

Family members who arrived at the property to pay their respects were too upset to talk.

A shocked neighbor said: 'The poor girl who died is my daughter's friend. My daughter is really upset.

'I saw the mother being escorted out of the building, she couldn't get out on her own.

“All I could see was the flames in the girls' bedroom. Nowhere else. It's devastating.'

Another neighbor said her daughter was playing in the backyard with the deceased girl and her brother.

“A few days ago she was playing with them on the slide they have in their garden, they were also playing with a ball in the street,” the neighbor said.

'It's a nice family. My dad is a teacher in Bradford and he would always say 'hello' and ask how we were doing.

“My daughter is so sad because she lost her friend.”

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it sent three crews, two from Bradford and one from Shipley, who used two hose reels and four breathing apparatus at the scene.
