Valkyrie and Sparc shut down next month

CCP Games EVE: Valkyrie, one of the first multiplayer VR games in history, will be closed next month with Sparc.

Tweet desde Both games “ The official account confirmed the news. Both the space combat game Valkyrie and Sparc, which provided Tron-style athletic future sports, will take the rest of the servers offline on August 5th. After that, the game will not be playable.

Valkyrie is particularly important as one of the first VR games announced and will serve as an exclusive launch for the Oculus Rift before it even appears on the HTC Vive and PS VR headsets. A spin-off of CCP’s popular EVE Online MMO, this game jumps into the cockpit of a spaceship and confronts your opponents online.

In fact, it was also one of Upload’s first video reviews because it’s so old. Seriously, I can’t even remember who is narrating this.

The news may seem sudden, but the writing of both projects has long been a wall. After working heavily on VR in new studios and projects before, CCP withdrew from the VR market in late 2017 and closed these new divisions. Valkyrie implemented flat screen support to maintain that number, but its developer, CCP Newcastle, was sold out. Neither game was released on the Quest platform, which has been successful for many struggling and long-standing VR developers.
