Vin Diesel's new 'Riddick' film is moving forward for fall filming

Vin Diesel officially returns to the world of Pitch-black and galactic anti-hero Riddickthe science fiction action franchise that gave the actor his first major leading role.

Riddick: Furya, which was announced in February 2023, is now moving full speed ahead toward an August 26 shooting date, producers announced Monday. Diesel stars and produces the film, once again teaming up with David Twohy, the filmmaker who has directed all previous entries in the franchise. Filming takes place in countries such as Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Pitch-black, released by Universal in 2000, introduced Diesel as an imprisoned criminal who, along with several other passengers, crash-lands on a planet where sunset unleashes wild monsters. While the first was made for $23 million, 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick cost over $100 million as the film went epic. The route failed to excite the audience and it seemed as if the film series was over.

But Diesel calmly bought the rights to the franchiseand exchange them for a performance in a Fast and furious movie. The deal resulted in the 2013 entry Riddickwhich brought the series back to its more modest and more creature features.

In Furya, which Diesel and Twohy have been developing and teasing since 2014, Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and fears will be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he ever imagined.

Diesel produces under the banner of One Race Films together with his partner and sister Samantha Vincent. Rocket Science's Thorsten Schumacher and Thank You Studios' Lars Sylvest will also produce alongside Joe Neurauter.
