Weather maps reveal exact date Britain will be hit by 700 mile rain bomb | Weather | News

Weather maps have revealed that Britain will be hit by a 700-mile rain bomb by the end of the month as the country experiences a period of uncertain weather.

WXCharts maps show up to 72mm of rain could fall on the Scottish Highlands near the towns Dundee, Glasgow And Inverness. The weather front is expected to hit on May 18 before reaching its peak on May 20.

Further south, the Midlands will also be hit hard by heavy rain, with up to 56mm falling on higher ground. In Walesaround 50mm of rain could fall in coastal areas near e.g Bangor And Anglesey.

England will escape the worst of the rain. The will of LondonSouthampton and Reading will see between 15 and 25mm of rain; significantly less than the 45mm that could hit Bristol Cardiff further west.

Devon and Cornwall will experience different fortunes, as the former is expected to receive slightly less rain than the latter, with 13mm for southern Cornwall versus 26mm for Devon.

Despite the damp weather conditions, temperatures are expected to remain mild across Britain as temperatures range between seven and fourteen degrees. The warmest areas will be East Anglia and counties in the south-east of England.

In the meantime, the lowest temperatures are predicted Scotland and the Midlands surrounding it Newcastle And Middelsbrough.

The With office's long-term forecast reflects the possibility of more unsettled weather for Britain as it works its way through the rest of the month towards June.

The With office warned: “Over the longer term, there is a greater chance of the unsettled weather returning to Britain. This means that periods of wet weather are likely for most, with no particular location being more susceptible to it than anywhere else.

“The chances of above or below average temperatures are fairly balanced, but at this time of year it means some warm days are likely.”

A mix of warm and unsettled conditions is reflected in last year's weather public holiday weekend. The With office warned ahead of the annual holiday that it would all depend on where people spent the weekend.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist for the With office Mark Sidaway warned: “While things remain uncertain with further showers or longer spells of rain for some, all areas will see some drier conditions and sunshine at some point and it should feel quite warm in that sunshine. It will really depend on where you are geographically what kind of weather you might experience.”
