Weekly survey results: Huawei Pura 70 Ultra seems to be a hit, Pura 70 tops the Pro model

The lack of a Google Play Store on the Huawei Pura 70 series isn't ideal, but it's not a dealbreaker either – according to the comments below last week's pollSome are already using Google-less Huawei phones and are looking at the new series. That said, it's a no-go for others as some essential apps (e.g. local banking apps) are missing, but it looks like Huawei has done a good job of supplementing the App Gallery.

What do people think of the four phones? Well, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is a blockbuster in the making with half of voters showing interest and only a fraction of them waiting for reviews to make a final decision. The main complaints were the sub-QHD resolution of the screen (all four around 1260p+) and the chipset that can't match the best offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. Huawei has done impressive work on its own, but still has some catching up to do.

Other complaints were about the price, which is already high in China and even higher elsewhere – Huawei announced global prices of three models and the Ultra costs €1,500 (for a 16/512 GB device). Not so surprising: a Xiaomi 14 Ultra also costs € 1,500 and the Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at € 1,450.

The Huawei Pura 70 Pro And Pura 70 Pro+ has had a tougher time – a third of voters are interested, but need some convincing. You can check out our hands-on review for more information about the two phones. Note that the Pro+ isn't available worldwide, but the main difference with the Pro is satellite calling on a system that isn't available outside China, so no surprise here. The Pura 70 Pro costs €1,200 for a 12/512 GB device and will be available at the end of May.

Interestingly enough, the vanilla Huawei Pura 70 proving to be a more popular choice than its Pro sibling – not as popular as the Ultra, but still. Again, the non-Google thing is a problem for some, but not for everyone. Instead, things return to screen resolution, chipset and other things – that triangular camera island looks unappealing to some. For more information about the phone, visit our hands-on review.

A controversial Huawei turns things around – the Huawei P60 Pro had a lot more to prove an earlier poll showed that half of the people interested in it were waiting for detailed reviews. It seems that the company has earned back consumer trust, as there was a lot less uncertainty surrounding the newly named Pura 70 series. Whether the company achieves its goal 10 million units the target sent remains to be seen, of course, but it's already off to a good start.
