We're pro-frugal sisters – we find the best freebie items in BINS at boot sales and then sell them for profit

TWO clever sisters who are thrift thrifters have revealed that some of the best stuff they find at car boot sales is in the BIN.

Lisa and Lesley Harley, from Kikrckaly, Fife, love a good bargain and often visit second-hand and charity shops.

They often sell unwanted items for a small amount of cash, with Lisa, 34, selling goods on eBay, while Lesley, 33, chooses to sell items on Vinted.

But above all, the couple loves a good thing trunk sale and say it has quickly become their main side hustle.

And they've revealed that some of their top finds actually come out of bins after the sale.

Lisa and Lesley have made it their mission to prove that everything has value and that nothing belongs in the trash.

The clever sisters spotted unwanted items next to the bin at a recent shoe sale and after a quick look discovered the bag was full of goodies which they then sold for £145.

And now they've encouraged others not to be so hasty in throwing away unwanted items, as they can still be given a new lease of life and sold for extra cash.

We watched as people dumped these bags of books and CDs next to the garbage bin. They said they didn't want them. We wanted them

Lisa shared a video on social media showing how they found free goodies after a car boot sale.

The video, posted to TikTok, shows the sisters finding their impressive booty.

The text on the screen reads: “It's Sunday. The sun is shining. Let's go earn some pocket money.

“We did buy a few things, but our main highlight was the garbage can… WHY DO PEOPLE THROW THIS IN THE BIN?

I bought a painting for £8 at a car boot sale – I was amazed to hear it is worth THOUSANDS thanks to the signature mark

“Well, they were next to the trash. I took them all home to sort them all out and sell them…

“Sold them in bundles for a total of £145. Posted immediately. Thank you inpost-lockers. Thank you very much. Car boot sale bin”.

The caption also read: “Another day of profit chasing by the trunk.

“People sell suitcases to get rid of things they don't want, and unfortunately, if they don't sell them, they tend to just throw them away.

The great thing about it is that there is nothing worth throwing in the trash

“We saw people dumping these bags of books and CDs next to the trash. They said they didn't want them… we wanted them.”

Lisa, who is also a renowned baker who makes incredible cakes, previously told the Scottish Sun that selling things is a great passion of theirs.

She explained: “We both have other side hustle, I bake cakes and my sister does personalized panting.

“But selling is actually our most important side business, we like to get rid of clothes that the children are too big for or things that we no longer need.

“I started selling things on eBay and Lesley sells things on Vinted, but we prefer to do it in person and save on costs.

“It's easier, and people like to see what they're buying and sometimes who they're buying it from.”

Lesley also added that they enjoy seeing an old, unwanted item given new life by someone who is grateful to pay a small price for it.

The mother-of-two said: “That's the beauty of it, like we're selling things that a charity shop or second-hand shop won't want, like a bra – shops don't want to take or sell these, but some people don't do that.” That doesn't matter, because it's been washed and cleaned and it can get an extra life.

SUMMER PLANS

ANY money Lesley earns is spent on something special for her daughter, Harley, 3, and one-year-old son Alexander.

This year it will help her pay for a summer vacation with her partner and her two children.

And they're planning a six-week caravan holiday when the sun starts to get better.

Lesley said: “All the money I make goes into a bag for the children, that's what I use it for personally.

“Just like our caravan holidays, it can help pay for a six-week caravan holiday.

“It's fun.”

“It's that simple! Everything at a boot sale can be reused, everything goes with you and nothing is lost.

“The beauty of it is there's nothing worth throwing in the trash.”

She added: 'We're not about the money, it's about the little benefits, and we're huge second-hand shoppers.

“I have two kids and two dogs, so it's easy because half the stuff is already in the house and lying around, so it's easier to walk around with a box and pick up what you don't use.

“I go through their clothes and anything that no longer fits them, put them in a bag for the garage and then they are washed and sold at a boot sale – it's just second nature to us now.

“People love a car boot sale. It's a great day out and you can buy toys for next to nothing.”
