The 2024 Eurovision songfestival officially starts in Malmö, Sweden.

The match will be held in the Scandinavian country after singer Loreen secured victory for her country in Liverpool last year with her song Tattoo.

More than 100,000 fans are expected to come to the city, while more than 160 million are expected to watch from home.

The The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place on Saturday, May 11with the semi-finals being held on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9.

A total of 37 countries are participating in the competition this year, six of which automatically qualify for the final.

These six are last year's winners, Sweden, together with the 'Big 5' of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Great Britain.

The other countries compete in the semi-finals for a place in the grand final, with the top 10 from each semi-final qualifying.

This year will also mark Luxembourg's return to the competition, 31 years after its last participation in 1993, while Romania has chosen not to participate.

It will be the seventh time Sweden has hosted the competition, having previously done so in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2000, 2013 and 2016.

The main venue is the Malmö Arena with 15,500 seats.

Who are this year's Eurovision presenters?

The three live Eurovision shows is presented by Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman, with the former previously taking on the role in 2013 and 2016.

Petra, 54, is a Swedish comedian, dancer, actress and TV presenter.

She presented Eurovision 2013 in Malmö and Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, with Måns Zelmerlöw, and also has her own program, the Petra Mede Show.

Accompanying her is Malin, 45, a Swedish-born actress known for her roles in hit Hollywood films including The Heartbreak Kid and 27 Dresses.

When their hosting announcement was made, Malin said she “can't really describe my feelings about this.”

'I'm very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always loved Eurovision and to be part of this fantastic show with Petra is a dream come true. Plus, Petra is one of the funniest women I've ever met,” she said.

Who is this year's British Eurovision entry?

This year he represents Great Britain Ollie Alexanderwho has already achieved worldwide success as the band's frontman Years and yearswho have had three successful albums (two of which reached number 1 in the UK album chart) and 10 UK top 40 singles.

Olly co-wrote his Eurovision entry Dizzy with Danny L Harle, who also wrote and produced Dua Lipa's Houdini.

He previously explained that the song was “about feeling such an intense wave of emotions for someone that they completely turn your world upside down and inside out.”

The performer has also appeared on screen, starring in Russell T Davies' It's A Sin, a brilliant and devastating drama about a group of friends living in the shadow of the AIDS crisis, which won a National Television Award.

On which channel will Eurovision 2024 be broadcast and at what time?

All three live programs – both the semi-finals and the grand final – will be broadcast live again BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The semi-finals will take place on May 7 and 9 and the grand final on Saturday, May 11.

The semi-finals will be presented by commentators Scott Mills And Rylan and each broadcast from 8pm on their respective days.

They are followed by Croatia, Netherlands, Italy, Ukraine, Israel, France, Greece and Ireland, with Great Britain completing the top 10.
