Who's going to the 2024 Met Gala and who's skipping the event?

Every year, on the first Monday in May, the Upper East Side is stormed with a slew of A-listers, Hollywood darlings, music idols and elite designers ready to climb the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in support of the coveted costume institution. This year the “biggest night in fashion” will celebrate the opening of the new fashion center Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Reawakening exhibit, a mixed media installation with 250 archival items from the permanent collection of the costume institute.

Despite many Internet predictions, the term “Sleeping Beauty” does not refer to Disney fantasy or designer jammies. The exhibition's 'sleeping beauties' are fifty garments, so delicate and latent that they can never be worn again – some fragile and fragmented, far from their original form. Textiles will be grouped into three 'zones' or sections – land, sea and air – to intentionally configure visions of the natural world, coupled with their embodiment by industry leaders.

As established by the gala's governor, Anna Wintour, this year's dress code is 'The Garden of Time'. Inspired by JG Ballard's 1962 short story, guests are expected to illustrate fleeting beauty, such as Count Axel's dwindling garden. The Elizabethan era will likely be tapped, replicating the concept of conservation as well as organic elements such as floral decorations.

While a place setting for the night requires a hefty donation fee, the parameter that proves to be the most difficult to address is over Fashion's Editor-in-Chief, the figure who has the final say on the guest list. Of course, we can't expect to see every celebrity who has ever attended the gala year after year, even if they are at Anna Wintour's request. But there are a few who will probably be there on May 6.

The co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala – Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez and Bad Bunny – are guaranteed, along with the event's hosts and sponsors: Loewe's creative director, Jonathan Anderson and TikTok's CEO, Shou Zi Chew.

According to a post dated April 13 Page six According to the report, Lily Gladstone and Ayo Edebiri are two newcomers to the Met Gala invite list this year. Additionally, a source who spoke to the outlet said Gisele Bündchen, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Kendall Jenner, Uma Thurman, Cara Delevingne, Sarah Paulson and Olivia Rodrigo will also grace the Met steps. Barry Keoghan would have received an invitation for the second year in a row.

With these selected individuals we can hire Fashion's two red carpet hosts, La La Anthony and Emma Chamberlain, will also be back. Chamberlain made a splash during her Gilded Glamor-themed freshman year when a clip of her interview with Jack Harlow went viral. Before leaving the carpet, Harlow casually admitted to Chamberalina, “I love you, bye, bye,” before the coffee company creator burst into a belly laugh, cameras cutting as she looked back in shock.

Although it hasn't been confirmed yet, the Kardashians and Jenners, Kim, Kylie and Kris will most likely be in attendance as they are known to provoke buzzy red carpet moments. In addition, designers such as Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Tory Burch and Tom Ford. Normally we would expect to see former Givenchy creative director Matthew Williams emerge alongside Gigi Hadid last year, but since his recent departure from the French fashion house, we may see Clare Waight Keller in his place. Donatella Versace and Marc Jacobs have been photographed on the steps in recent years, meaning they could make a return, Donatella more likely than not.

Jared Leto, Doja Cat and Lil Nas

Among ordinary people, there are a handful of celebrities who have publicly stated that they will never attend the Met Gala again or that they have been ousted by Wintour.

“I'll never go again. It was so unpleasant. It was boiling. It was too busy. I didn't like it at all,” Gwyneth Paltrow said USA today in 2013. Yet the Goop creator found his way back in 2017 and 2019.

Zayn Malik attended the event in 2016 but hasn't returned since, while Amy Schumer notably told Howard Stern that going to the Met Gala was a “punishment.”

“These are people who give the impression that they are having a conversation. I don't like the farce. I have no interest in fashion,” she said in 2016.

Tina Fey has previously said she would never return to the fundraiser after describing it as a “villains parade”.

In 2016, Tim Gunn, the 70-year-old former Parsons School of Design professor and TV personality, confirmed that he had been excluded from the Met Gala.

“I was asked what was the most unforgettable thing I've ever seen in fashion,” he said AND! News. “And I said, 'It's easy. It showed Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards – two big hulking men – from a fashion show.'”

Lena Dunham, Demi Lovato and Jameela Jamil are also all said to have been banned after publicly bashing their experiences.

The 2024 Met Gala takes place on Monday, May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
