Nemesis at Alton towers is one of the UK’s most beloved roller coasters.
But the famous attraction, which turned 28 in 2022, is soon to close for more than a year.
Fans of Alton Towers can enjoy a host of thrilling rides and roller coasters in the Staffordshire Theme Park in between, including 14-loop ride The Smiler, vertical drop ride Oblivionand even a “flying” roller coaster called Galactica.
But why does Nemesis close and when will it reopen?
Here’s everything you need to know.
Why does Nemesis close at Alton Towers?
Nemesis closes…temporarily, to undergo a transformation for a big anniversary.
Located in the park’s Forbidden Valley, the popular roller coaster will be in operation for 30 years by 2024 — so now seems like a good time to give it a makeover.
We don’t have any details about the transformation yet, but we do know that it will remain open until November 6, 2022.
Kate McBirnie, Head of Product Excellence at Alton Towers Resort, said: ‘Nemesis is Europe’s first ever inverted roller coaster, thrilling thrill seekers since 1994.
“The legendary roller coaster is loved by thrill seekers in the UK and beyond, and we want to give fans of the ride the chance to experience Nemesis in its current form before it closes on November 6.”
Nemesis cost £10 million to make – from 250 tons of steel. It whizzes fans through a series of loops, corkscrews and four turns with inversions at speeds of up to 80 km/h.
When could Nemesis reopen?
Brace yourself, because the Nemesis roller coaster will be operational again in 2024.
There is no exact date yet, but one will definitely be announced closer in time. Check out this space.
