But for most drivers, it's been years since we've done that sat down and studied the official theory and read the rulebook.

More than 50 percent of Britons have not read the Motorway Code since passing their driving test, despite 24 recent updates to the regulations.

Independent Car Insurance Advisor made a mini theory exam to check whether the British are up to date with their knowledge of the rules of the road, the Mirror reported.

They surveyed 2,010 drivers across the country and found that a whopping 88 percent of us failed to answer five basic theory questions.

The research also found that more than half would fail the theory test if they were to take it again today.

These are the five questions they asked drivers. Don't scroll down until you're ready to see the answers.

  1. What do you think triangular traffic signs indicate?
  2. What lights, if any, do you consider appropriate to turn on when driving on the highway at night when there are cars in front of you?
  3. What do you think is the legal speed limit on a highway if there are no signs stating otherwise?
  4. What time difference do you think you should leave between your car and the car in front of you when driving on a wet road?
  5. What do you think you should do if you have to slow down quickly on the highway?

On an official theory test in Britain the mark is 86 percent, but with just five questions you have to answer all five to get that mark.

If you're struggling with these questions, it might be worth re-reading the Highway Code and figuring out where you made the mistake.

Maybe the rules have changed completely since you first took the test.

If you think you've passed the test, well done. But check out the answers below:

  1. Warnings
  2. Low beam
  3. 61 km/h to 70 km/h
  4. 4-5 seconds
  5. Turn on your hazard lights

Independent Car Insurance AdvisorThe survey found that only a shocking 21 percent of respondents could identify the warning sign.

Meanwhile, only one in five thought they should turn on their high beams on the highway at night.

If you make that decision, you could blind other drivers and make the road more dangerous for everyone.

Thousands of Brits demand new driving law as nine in 10 agree it's a major problem and it's 'only getting worse'

By Jacob Jaffa

THOUSANDS of Brits have demanded a significant change to the law as nine in 10 agree a major problem is “getting worse”.

The RAC has given its support to the campaign to combat what it considers a serious security risk.

a petition has been submitted to parliament demanding an investigation into the brightness of LED headlights.

The devices have become increasingly popular with car manufacturers because they can often provide a better field of view than traditional halogen lamps.

However, an RAC survey found that 90% of motorists have reported problems with their cars, including being dazzled by oncoming traffic engines.
