Dozens of firefighters saved about 30 homes as they battled a fire with trees, hedges, shrubs and decking in the west London.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said 10 fire engines and about 70 firefighters were called to the Hereford Road blaze in Feltham on Sunday at 4.35 pm.

About 60 residents were evacuated from their homes due to the amount of smoke.

Station commander Tamer Ozdemir said: “Firefighters worked incredibly hard in hot, harsh conditions to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.

“Their hard work has saved about 30 homes in Hereford Road.”

A drone team helped crews identify other hot spots in the surrounding forest.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Avni Dudhia, 32, said: “For about 40 minutes it was just flames and a lot of thick dark smoke.

“Our house is probably about 600 to 700 meters from the fire.

“It was absolutely scary because you could see how fast the fire spread over the trees to the right, so much smoke too.”
