Police have released this new CCTV image of a man believed to be behind two kidnapping attempts in Fendalton.

Police believe a man who attempted to seize a woman from a Christchurch street in an early morning kidnapping attempt approached a second woman half an hour later.

A woman jogging was left shocked a man tried to drag her away on Kotare St in Fendaltonat about 6:20 a.m. on Monday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Damon Wells said they now believe the same man approached another woman on Fendalton Rd at 6:55am, near the intersection of Clyde Rd.

The man was seen lying on the corner of Clyde and Creyke roads, which may have been captured by the dashcams of passing motorists, he said.

He was last seen heading north on Glandovey Rd around 7am.

Police are once again enlisting the public’s help in identifying him.

The man is described as possibly of Indian descent, medium-sized, about 176 to 179 cm tall, with short black hair and a short beard.

He would be between 25 and 33 years old and wore a dark colored vest over a dark t-shirt with white stripes on the sleeves and dark colored track pants with white stripes down the sides.

His left trouser leg was rolled up to the knee.

“Police recognize the concern this will cause in the community and would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to identify and locate the man responsible.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously and have increased patrols in the area.”

Wells said they would like to thank the public for the information they have received so far.

Police have released another photo captured on CCTV footage, which they hope can identify the man.

They are asking anyone in the Glandovey Rd area who has seen the man or noticed anything unusual to contact police.

“We are also asking residents who have cameras covering the sidewalk and road to view the footage, taken between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Monday, October 3, and to contact police if they notice anything suspicious.”
