A New Report Claims Apple Rejected iPhone processor manufacturer TSMC’s plan to raise its chip manufacturing prices by about 6%.
The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. was first rumored August 2022 to schedule a raise, then formally shortly after told his customers that the price increase would take place in 2023.
Now according to Economic Daily News, it is rumored that Apple simply rejected the price increase. Apple is TSMC’s largest customer, so it’s likely it could have some impact.
However, TSMC has been slow to increase its prices compared to its rivals. Other processor manufacturers have increased the production prices of chips since the end of 2020, partly because of the global shortage of semiconductors.
Economic Daily News sources go on to say that TSMC’s planned rise is not high compared to those rivals. At the same time, TSMC’s rise was planned to begin in 2023, when the global deficit is expected to narrow.
As a result, the publication’s sources say some customers had hoped TSMC could reduce the planned increase.
Neither Apple nor TSMC have commented on the claim that the increase has been rejected.
