Australian rock star Ignatius Jones, best known as the frontman of Jimmy and the Boys, has died at the age of 67.

He died on Tuesday at his home in the Philippines after a short illness.

His sister Monica announced his death in a statement on Wednesday.

It read: 'It is with enormous sadness that we announce the passing of Ignatius Jones AM, after a short illness. He died peacefully at 9:30 PM, Sydney time, last night (May 7) in Iloilo City, Philippines.”

She added: “Iggy had enormous creative energy and contributed to the arts for over 50 years, both in Australia and internationally. He was one of the world's leading event directors, creators and designers.'

“His friends and family will remember Iggy as a bon vivant, a lively storyteller and a true Renaissance man, with a vast and passionate knowledge of history and art.

“Australia's arts community has lost a champion, and his passing will make dinner parties less interesting.”
