Cole Palmer was named Men's Player of the Year and Men's Player of the Year Chelsea's glitzy end-of-season awards ceremony last night.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation since his switch Manchester city for Chelsea and is perhaps the least surprising winner of the Player of the Year award in the club's history, with Thiago Silva lifting the prestigious award last season.

Eyebrows were raised when the Blues decided to spend £42.5 million on Palmer last summer, as the youngster had made just 19 appearances in the league. Premier League until then under Pep Guardiola at City.

But Palmer proved all his doubters wrong during a phenomenal debut season, with the attacking midfielder scoring 24 goals and 13 assists in what had otherwise been a disappointing campaign in west London.

The Manchester City academy graduate, who was rewarded with his England debut last November, will be desperate to add to his impressive record in Chelsea's last three remaining games against Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth.

While Palmer may still be feeling the pain after being on the losing side in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals this season, the joy was clear to see as he was cheered on stage to collect his awards at Stamford Bridge.

Asked about his ambitions for Euro 2024 after being awarded the Player of the Year award, Palmer said: 'Hopefully I get picked and I can go to the tournament and show what I can do.

“But there are still a few games left at the end of the season.”

It is likely that Palmer will have won both the Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards in a stunning performance given how far he has stood out from the rest of Mauricio Pochettino's squad this season.

Unable to vote for himself, the England international revealed he had picked Malo Gusto to win Chelsea's Player of the Year award, speaking to the club's social media team shortly after the ceremony.

“It's been a dream season, a debut season for me, so thanks to the manager, the staff, the players and of course the fans,” Palmer began.

'I just came to play and show my abilities and talent to the fans. But it went great, probably better than I expected, so yeah, I'm excited.”

When asked who he voted for to be Player of the Year, Palmer replied: “I voted for Malo Gusto.

'I like playing with him on the right and he has been great when he has played this season, so that's why I voted for him.'

Chelsea signed Gusto from Lyon in January 2023 before immediately loaning the Frenchman to Ligue 1 for the remainder of last season.

The 20-year-old right-back made his Chelsea debut in August and has impressed in Reece James' absence this season, making 33 appearances in all competitions.

Gusto made his senior debut in France in October and the youngster will no doubt be desperate for a place in Didier Deschamps' squad at this summer's European Championships in Germany.
