Avoid risky activities during NHS ambulance strikes, the minister tells the public

The public should avoid any “risky activity” during Wednesday’s ambulance strikessaid a minister.

Will Quince, the health minister, urged people to change their plans to minimize the risk of injury.

“There will be disruption to the service and it is important that when people are planning risky activities I would strongly encourage them not to do it as there will be disruption on the day,” he told Times Radio.

The GMB, Unision and Unite unions, representing around 25,000 ambulance workers, walk out on Wednesday in a coordinated strike involving parademics, call handlers and emergency room assistants at 10 of 11 trusts in England and Wales in a dispute over pay.

Another strike by GMB union members at nine trusts will take place on December 28. The timing of the strikes will vary between each union and ambulance service, with some going on strike for 24 hours.
