Lady Prue Leith admitted that she never understood Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas‘ jokes further The Great British Bake Off…but that doesn’t stop the sheer amount of love she has for both of them.

It was recently announced that after two years on the program, Matt had decided to do just that stepping down from his role as co-host next to Noel, explaining that he couldn’t juggle the responsibility with his other work commitments.

“I absolutely loved working with you @RealMattLucas. Thanks for bringing so much laughter and fun to the place,” Dame Prue tweeted after news of his departure.

During a performance in Lorraine on Tuesday, the 82-year-old spoke to the stand-in host Ranvir Singh about the comedian’s departure, with the restaurateur admitting she has no “lead” on who could replace him.

“I don’t know anything about young comedians. I had never heard of Noel Fielding before meeting him there,’ she admitted.

When asked if she would like an ‘older comedian’ instead, Dame Prue replied ‘I’d like someone I’ve heard of’, while Ranvir threw in suggestions including Sir Billy Connolly and Sir Lenny Henry.

The Bake Off judge then confessed her true reactions to Matt and Noel’s light-hearted jokes and skits on the show.

“I’m going to love them, but the truth is I never understood Matt and Noel’s jokes anyway,” she said.

“But I love Matt and he wants to do more theater.”

In his social media post revealing his decision to quit Bake Off, Matt described the hosting stint as a “delightful experience.”

“I can’t imagine a more fun way to spend my summers, but it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both ‘Fantasy Football League’ and ‘Bake Off’ alongside all my other projects,” the 48-year-old said. old.

“So after three series and 51 episodes, I happily pass the baguette on to someone else.”

The comic extended its “heartfelt thanks and gratitude” to everyone who works at Love Productions and Channel 4, before writing: “To Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and of course the wonderful bakers for welcoming me to the place.” ‘

He concluded, ‘I wish whoever takes over all the best and can’t wait to tune into the next series without knowing who won already! xxx Matt.’
