Channel 4 dropped their post-match interview with Gareth Southgate to broadcast GOGGLEBOX instead.

The three lions put in another sloppy performance as their scoreless run extended to five games.

England watched helplessly as Giacomo Raspadori’s 86e minute strike sealed victory for Italy.

And the result condemned England to relegation in Nations League A, set up a horror draw for Euro 2024.

three lions fans waited with bated breath for Southgate’s interview after the final whistle.

With the World Cup on the horizon, the supporters wanted to know what he thought of the performance.

But just before Southgate was due to speak, Nations League channel Channel 4 ended their football program.

And instead, they booted up an episode of the reality TV show Gogglebox.

England fans who had been waiting for answers from Southgate were left furious.

Many were outraged at Channel 4 over the bizarre decision to cut themselves off from the Three Lions gaffer.

And it means Monday’s dead rubber against Germany will be the last time fans can hear Southgate’s thoughts before the World Cup kicks off in November.

One tweeted: “Quite baffled Channel 4 has no post-match interview with Southgate. So many questions after that.”

Another bellowed: “Channel 4 won’t show Southgate’s post-match interview until midnight because they have to show Gogglebox?

“Put it back on the BBC where it belongs ffs.”

One yelled: ‘Just when you think it can’t get any worse Channel 4 won’t let us see the Southgate interview.

“We need to go straight to people who are petting their dogs and eating muffins in front of the TV.”

GATEHOLDER

Another shouted: “It’s just a shame to have to talk live about that terrible match before an interview with Southgate, just for Gogglebox.”

Southgate still managed to deliver his interview, despite the cameras not being on.

After being booed by traveling fans at the final whistle, he said: “There will be a lot of noise but that will be around me and that is absolutely fine. My job is to take over that pressure for them.

“I understand the reaction at the end because those are the results we have achieved in this competition. It’s an understandable emotional response.

“It’s hard for me to be too critical of performance. We had more possession, more shots, more shots on target. For the most part we played very well.

“We didn’t handle the decisive moment defensively and we had moments to be more decisive in their last third and our quality was not quite right.

PRESSURE MOUNTING

“It’s a period where ultimately the results are what everyone reacts to, but I thought there were a lot of positives for us as a team. Lots of good individual performances.

“Personally, I thought the performance was a step in the right direction, but I fully understand that because of the result, that will not be the reaction.

“It’s very hard to say why we don’t score. I think we’re getting into the right areas and we had the moments we would have had in the past. People just didn’t deliver that last bit of quality.

“We have said that we are not in an ideal situation in terms of the number of players who regularly play at a high level. But we have to keep working on it and make sure we stay on track.

“The players in the dressing room know that this was a game they could have won. And if they take their chances and defend the goal better, then we win.

“These are fine margins. We play against some of the biggest football countries and the fine margins are decisive.

“We cannot say that these games have no value. These were important matches against top teams. As I said, there were many reasons for the results in the summer.

“Here we don’t have the result we needed or wanted. So we’re in a series of bad results. It’s up to us to rectify that.”
