Family mourns ‘iconic’ actress Kirstie Alley who has passed away at the age of 71

Actress Kirstie Alley has died at the age of 71 in a hospital in the US.

Her family took to social media early Tuesday morning to announce their tragic loss, in memory of a passionate and inspiring woman.

“The joy of life and passion of our mother, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy to create, were unparalleled and inspired us to live life to the fullest, just as she did, her children True and Lillie Parker wrote.

“We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Alley was best known for her breakout role as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom Cheers from 1987 to 1993, receiving both an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for the role in 1991.
