Inside Prince Andrew's 'crumbling' home as he faces deportation | British news

After the Duke of York's 'stay of execution' at his home in Windsor When he was awarded last year, new photos appear to show his house crumbling.

Prince Andreas63, has fought to stay in his 30-room Royal Lodge mansion – which requires £400,000 a year to maintain the sprawling 19th-century Grade II listed building.

King Charles previously demanded that Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah move from the 90-acre estate to a smaller location, such as Frogmore cottage.

Even now that Andrew is allowed to remain in the house if he keeps up with the repairs, moisture problems and wear and tear have proven that a lot of maintenance is needed.

Newly released photos show worsening cracks in the masonry, falling plaster and other problems.

His annual allowance – believed to be around £250,000 – was cut after the Jeffrey Epstein scandal forced him to step back from his public duties.

A family friend said last year: 'It's all a bit of cloud cuckoo land, I'm afraid.

'No one, not least His Majesty, believes there is any realistic chance that the Duke of York will be able to keep the roof of the Royal Lodge over his head in the long term.'

The King cannot simply kick Andrew out of the property as he took it over from the Crown Estate in 2004 on a long-term lease.

He has since spent millions of pounds on renovation work. If Andrew was persuaded to move, the Crown Estate could end up owing him money.

An insider said: 'The Duke is clearly not going down without a fight. This will probably all end in tears, probably his.”

It has long been rumored that the Prince and Princess of Wales, who currently live in the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage in Windsor with their three children, could move in.

But it is believed the Crown Estate is also not ruling out renting the Royal Lodge commercially to get the best returns.
