Interislander cancels Aratere sailings due to electrical failure

All sailings on Interislander’s Aratere ferry were canceled on Thursday due to an electrical failure that caused a problem with the ferry’s operating system.

Technicians found and completed the repair on Wednesday, but should spend Wednesday evening and Thursday testing and recommissioning the system, Interislander general manager Walter Rushbrook said in a statement.

All Aratere sailings were also canceled on Wednesday.

Aratere service was expected to return to normal by Friday.
