Jon Batiste leaves late show with Stephen Colbert after seven seasons – The Hollywood Reporter

Jon Batiste is exciting CBSThe late show with Stephen Colbert after serving as bandleader since the show launched in September 2015, host Stephen Colbert announced on Thursday.

Colbert told his audience that Louis Cato, who was filling in all summer during Batiste’s absence, will take over the role permanently, with the host introducing his audience to the new Louis Cato and the Late Show Band.

“Jon has decided to leave the show,” Colbert said during the episode. “But it’s for the best reasons, including to keep sharing his art with the world.”

The host explained that Batiste is out of town and couldn’t be in the studio for a major broadcast. “We’ve been so lucky to have been on the front row of Jon’s incredible talent for the past seven years,” Colbert continued. “But we’re happy for you, Jon, and I can’t wait to have you as our guest again with your next hit. I love you.”

Batiste, 35, was a big winner at the 2022 Grammy Awards in April, took home five trophies, including album of the year for We are. He also won an Oscar and a Grammy for his work on the score to the 2020 Pixar film Soulwhich he composed with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
