Mercury Prize announces new date after Queen’s death postponed

The Mercury Prize ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 18 after his postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth IIorganizers have confirmed.

Recognizing the best British album of the year, the event takes place at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, west Londonas previously planned.

The show earlier this month was canceled at the last minute when the news of the queen’s death brokewhich heralds the beginning of a national period of mourning.

Food from the event that may have been lost was distributed to the homeless following an online appeal led by singer and nominee Self Esteem.

Further details of the nominated artists who will perform on the new date will be confirmed at a later date.

The ceremony originally featured live performances from Sam, Simz, Fergus McCreadie, Gwenno, Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler, Joy Crookes, Kojey Radical, Nova Twins, Self Esteem, Wet Leg and Yard Act.

Announcing the delay, a spokesperson previously said in a statement: “Tonight’s Mercury Prize event has been postponed at this time of great national sadness. We know everyone involved with the Mercury Prize will understand.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family at this very difficult time. We will make an announcement about future arrangements as soon as possible.’

To mark the 100th anniversary of the BBC, broadcasting partner BBC Music will provide live television and radio coverage of the event, while BBC Four will also broadcast a program on 18 October from 9pm to 10:15pm.

Harry Styles, Sam Fender and Little Simz are among the acts in the running for the prestigious award, with 10 of the 12 acts – such as Wet Leg and Self Esteem – being nominated for the first time.

Last year, Arlo Parks won the Mercury Prize for her debut album Collapsed In Sunbeams.
