Nearly £30,000 was stolen in a robbery of a asda supermarket in Manchester, with police urgently looking for a man for questioning in connection with the robbery.

The suspect in the armed robbery made off with a bag filled with £28,500 cash after threatening a security guard in what police are calling a “terrifying and outrageous act”.

The robber pointed a suspected black pistol at the guard during the incident and specialized firearms officers arrived on the scene.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say it was a money transport theft and the ordeal left the security man ‘shocked’ but luckily unharmed.

Officers were called to the report of an armed robbery on Princess Road in Manchester around 9.40am on Saturday.

A man is wanted for questioning in connection with the crime, with police releasing two images to see if the public can help them with their investigation.

Police say they hope to identify the man, who is described as white, between the ages of 30 and 40 and of medium size.

They said he was in the area around the time of the theft before riding away from the city center on a silver-framed mountain bike.

He was wearing a green parker jacket, dark Adidas hat, black gloves, dark sweatpants and gray sneakers, as pictured.

No arrests have been made yet and investigators are scouring CCTV footage and speaking with potential witnesses to the crime.

Detective Inspector Kat McKeown, of GMP’s Longsight CID, said: “I can’t imagine the fear the guard felt when the perpetrator committed this terrifying and outrageous act.

“We know there were people around the supermarket who will also be shocked and shocked by the incident, and I can assure everyone involved that we are working tirelessly to identify and arrest the man responsible.

“We’ve spoken to a number of people so far and we want to make sure anyone who was in the area on Saturday morning who might have information is addressed – so get in touch if you haven’t already. ‘
