Liverpool: Child rushed to hospital after ‘injured by fireworks’

A 12-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after being injured by fireworks in Liverpool.

Emergency services were called to a yard in Pennard Avenue, Huyton, at 2:45 p.m. today.

The boy, who suffered head and body injuries, was taken to hospital.

Paramedics also treated a person who passed out after the incident.

Merseyside Police said in a statement: “We can confirm that we have received a report that a child has been injured as a result of the fireworks being set off in Huyton today, Sunday 25 September.

“At about 2:45 p.m., it was reported that a 12-year-old boy had been injured in the head and body by fireworks in the yard of a property on Pennard Avenue.

“Ambulance arrived on the scene and took the child to the hospital for treatment.”

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire Department officers are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Chief Inspector Gary O’Rourke said: ‘The investigation is at a very early stage to establish the circumstances of how the 12-year-old boy was injured by fireworks.

“A full investigation is underway by Merseyside Police and MFRS to establish the facts.”
