TrendForce: Apple will ship 4.5 to 5 million OLED iPad Pros in 2024

TrendForce's latest report predicts that Apple will ship between 4.5 and 5 million OLED iPad Pros this year. That's the 11-inch and 13-inch combined, and lower sales volume is expected than their LCD and mini-LED equipped predecessors.

TrendForce notes that despite reduced supply expectations, the move to AMOLED on mid-range devices is an important milestone for the industry.

The report expects AMOLED tablets to reach 9 million units by 2024, about 7% of the tablet market.

Sales projections aside, the behind-the-scenes technological innovation of the new iPad Pros is impressive. Apple opted for “tandem OLED displays,” meaning they are two OLED panels layered on top of each other to increase brightness. They promise brightness of up to 1,000 nits full-screen for SDR content and up to 1,600 nits for HDR.

TrendForce notes that the tandem technology is an essential interim solution to improve both performance and longevity until breakthroughs in OLED efficiency are achieved in the near future.

The report continues that while OLED panels are complex and difficult to produce, especially at this size, capabilities and improved yields are expected after 2026.
