Eurovision has now been around for 68 years and this year's Eurovision Song Contest starts tonight.

After Loreen won in Liverpool last year with her song Tattoo, the Swedish city of Malmö will host the other 36 countries competing for the title this time.

After the 2023 victory, Sweden is now on par with Ireland the country with the most Eurovision wins.

Sweden's victories started with ABBA in 1974 and include 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and then last year.

This year the three live shows will be presented by Petra Mede and Malin Åkermanwith the former previously taking on the role in 2013 and 2016.

Although Petra almost holds a Eurovision record of her own, she is not really the presenter who has taken part in the competition the most times.

So who are the people who have taken the stage the most times since it all started in 1956?

Who has organized the Eurovision Song Contest the most times?

Caterina Irene Elena Maria Boyle, Lady Saunders, better known as Katie Boyle, was an Italian-born British actress, writer, radio announcer, television personality and game show panelist.

Born in 1926 in a royal palace in Florence that once belonged to the Italian royal family, she was the daughter of an Italian and his English wife, Dorothy Kate Ramsden.

She came to Britain in 1946 and began a modeling career, including work for publications such as Vogue.

During the 1950s she appeared in several films and was also an on-screen continuity announcer for the BBC.

Ten years later, she became a TV personality, regularly appearing on programs such as What's My Line?, Juke Box Jury and the medical game show Lance That Boyle.

She was best known for presenting the Eurovision Song Contest four times: in 1960, 1963, 1968 and 1974.

The first three times the competition was organized in London, the last time in Brighton.

During the 1974 competition, she also famously presented without underwear after it was cut off from under her satin dress just before the broadcast began.

She died in 2018 at the age of 91.

Petra Mede is a Swedish comedian, dancer, actress and TV presenter.

She was born in Stockholm, grew up near Gothenburg and studied philosophy and French, but then started working as a dancer.

However, after her career was cut short by a back injury at the age of 20, she became a backing singer for Celine Dion before working as a tour guide in her home country.

When she was about 30, Petra turned her focus to comedy and appeared in several TV shows.

In 2010 she presented her own program, entitled Petra Mede Show.

In 2013 she presented the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö and also performed an interval act during the final.

She was the first solo presenter of the Eurovision Song Contest in almost twenty years. Her presentation was critically acclaimed and she subsequently returned for the 2016 competition, which she presented together with last year's winner, Måns Zelmerlöw, in Stockholm.

This year she will be the host again.

This year, Petra is joined by Malin Akerman, 45, a Swedish-born actress known for her roles in hit Hollywood films including The Heartbreak Kid and 27 Dresses.

When their hosting announcement was made, Malin said she “can't really describe my feelings about this.”

'I'm very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always loved Eurovision and to be part of this fantastic show with Petra is a dream come true. Plus, Petra is one of the funniest women I've ever met,” she said.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will be broadcast on the BBC. The first semi-final will be broadcast on BBC One on Tuesday at 8pm.
