A BELOVED Emmerdale screenwriter has said goodbye to the Dales.
Jack Deslandes has quit the ITV soapwith fans wanting to know why he is leaving the show.
Who is Jack Deslandes?
Jack Deslandes is known as one of Emmerdale scriptwriters.
He started working for the soap in 2023 and was involved in some major storylines during that time.
On Jack's blog he revealed how he joined Emmerdale at the height of Emmerdale Paddy Kirk's mental health crisis in which the character contemplated suicide.
This is what he worked for Kroningsstraat as a researcher and before that he was a freelance videographer.
When did Jack Deslandes stop writing screenplays for Emmerdale?
On May 5, 2024, Jack announced he was leaving Emmerdale.
He confirmed in a lengthy post that his final credits for the show had finished the week before.
Jack also discussed the complexities of working for such a high-profile soap opera.
On his blog he revealed: “From struggling to write a six-episode arc on the first day, to having sixty scenes to polish by the end of the day.
“I learned how to write quickly, how to pitch to that group of writers, who to pitch to, what different roles storyliners played in encouraging conversations at conferences and talk-throughs, and what beats I needed to get to my producer to make happy.
“And I've made some great friends and gained confidence in my strengths in story building.”

The screenwriter worked on many of the show's major plots during his time on Emmerdale.
Why did Jack Deslandes leave Emmerdale?
Jack confirmed that he had left Emmerdale to work for EastEnders.
In fact, he's already working on the BBC One soap for four months (from May 2024).
Writing again on his personal blog, Jack discussed his time on Emmerdale and his inner conflict at now being a rival to his former workplace.

The writer wrote: “Last week my 144th and final credit rolled over the familiar strings of the Emmerdale farm… I've been with EastEnders for over four months now so it's been a bit strange watching the Emmerdale episodes where I worked on from afar.
“It's like watching an ex finish the marathon they were training for while you were together. You're happy that they're doing well, but you know your new partner might not appreciate you being their partner likes.” Instagram after.
“But since talking about the stories I worked on when I was in Emmerdale was embargoed until it aired, I thought it would be Nice to allow myself a post of reflection on my time in the Dales.”
Jack said he wished his former Emmerdale friends despite them now being rivals.

He concluded: “My move to EastEnders has been made easier by the toolkit of skills and workflow techniques I gained at Emmerdale and although we are now rivals not only in terms of ratings but also next one months Baftas.
“I wish the team there nothing but the best and hope there will be many more moments of madness and chaos on the farm.”
In Jack's new role, the crew member develops EastEnders stories and assists and edits scripts from his junior staff.
