A series of crashes over the weekend

Dunedin police have been kept busy over the past weekend with a spate of accidents and clashes, including a woman who removed her license plates in an attempt to evade the law, but forgot that her fitness sticker warrant was still visible.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said a car that had collided with a concrete utility pole was discovered by patrolling officers in MAlvern St.

An investigation revealed that the license plates and the license plate label had been removed.

However, the fitness warrant sticker was not removed from the windshield, allowing officers to track the driver to a nearby address where they discovered an 18-year-old woman who admitted to being the driver.

She admitted to officers that she had gone too fast and lost control of the wheel, with a passenger in the car, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Officers were also called to the scene of an accident on Andersons Bay Rd around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, where a vehicle reportedly refused to give way as it exited the Couplands Bakery parking lot.

However, the 19-year-old student who collided with the vehicle had a breath alcohol level of 381 mcg and was given a court date, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Another accident happened around 2:45am on Cumberland St outside the BP gas station on Sunday.

Four people ran away and police were trying to locate the driver, Snr Sgt Bond said.

At 2:20 a.m. that night, officers were called when a 43-year-old man walked out of a taxi near the Exchange.

The man was taken to hospital and it was likely he was drunk, Snr Sgt Bond said.

A 21-year-old man required hospital treatment after being hit by a car at a party in Dukes Rd, Mosgiel around 12:45pm on Sunday.

The man had stepped off the curb to avoid a fight, Snr Sgt Bond said.

On Saturday at 13:45 there was another collision between two cars.

An 18-year-old man was driving on Hillside Rd and was waiting for a car in front of him to hit a gas station when he was hit from behind by another vehicle.

The man was checked by a St. John ambulance but was not seriously injured, Snr Sgt Bond said.

At about 12:30 p.m. Friday, police and other emergency services were called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on South Rd.

A 77-year-old was driving at the intersection with Eglinton Rd where a 67-year-old man was carrying groceries, which he dropped and bent down to grab.

Unseen by the driver, the man was knocked to the ground.

He was checked by St. John and brought home without injury, Snr Sgt Bond said.
