Chelsea verdict: Tuchel’s final act as Blues boss in signing Aubameyang could prove to be a masterstroke

THOMAS TUCHEL’s final act as Chelsea manager could well be an absolute masterstroke.

the axe Chelsea boss has signed his former Borussia Dortmund player, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyangonly a few days before owner Todd Boehly gave him the boot.

Eyebrows were raised when the Blues signed the 33-year-old, and more questions were asked when tuchel was fired shortly afterwards.

But in a match against AC Milan with so much calm, Aubameyang showed the killer instinct that all the best strikers have to suggest he could be a great player for Graham Potter.

If we are going to face Italian champions, nothing less than three points would be enough.

Chelsea had just one point to show from their first two Champions League games, and a defeat would make qualifying for the knockouts an almost impossible task.

The Blues were far from shining under Potter since the ex-Brighton boss was brought in to replace Tuchel.

Tonight, however, everything seemed to come together.

Aubameyang opened his Blues account over the weekend and made two in two matches with his close-range finish in this 3-0 win.

However, it wasn’t just his purpose that Potter left Potter cherishing.

Tuchel brought the former Arsenal skipper for both his overall game and his finishing, which showed signs against AC Milan.

Now that Aubameyang has had a few weeks to settle in, it is clear that he is getting to know his teammates better.

The 33-year-old was always eager to keep the game moving by passing the ball to Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling with his first touch.

He showed that killer instinct that Chelsea lacked by being in the right place at the right time to fill home from a Reece James cross.

The striker position has plagued the Blues for so long, but perhaps Aubameyang is finally the man to end that curse.

The next game for the Blues is the return against AC Milan, the most difficult game of the group stage.

A win there and Potter’s side will have one foot in the last-16.

And now that the Blues have someone in Aubameyang to get to the end of James’ incredible deliveries, Potter will be sure to do just that.

He may owe it to his predecessor Tuchel.
