onald trump considered bombing Mexican drug labs while he was? U.S president, has unveiled a new memoir.

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman writes in Confidence Man, to be released Thursday, that a mistaken identity may have caused confusion about the matter.

“He raised it several times and eventually asked a bewildered Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, if the United States could indeed bomb the labs,” she wrote.

Trump’s questioning followed deputy health secretary Brett Giroir, who told the president that Mexican labs should be stopped from supplying drugs to the US by putting “lead to target.”

Mr Giroir had no authority over arms mobilization, but the report suggests that Mr Trump may have mistook him for a defense expert because of the Secretary of State’s uniform.

“The response from White House aides was not to try to change Trump’s mind, but to consider asking Giroir not to wear his uniform to the Oval Office anymore,” Ms. Haberman wrote.

Over 607 pages, Confidence Man lifts the lid on the Trump administration from the accounts of White House aides and insiders. Ms. Haberman has also interviewed Mr. Trump several times.

Other gossip nuggets include that a Republican congresswoman once got a call from someone asking questions and claiming to be from the Washington Post who sounded “much like” the 45th president over the line.

Mr Trump is also said to have made vulgar remarks about rape in a conversation with former Prime Minister Theresa May and sometimes joked with advisers about how he longed for the downfall or even death of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The book concludes with a typed Q&A with Mr. Trump, who replied in all caps with his parting words and the book as follows: “FAKE NEWS – GOODNIGHT.”
