Hydra Electric Motorcycle Concept is manga-significant!

Akira was arguably one of the most influential anime movies of the past few decades, but even Kaneda’s bike looks like an old moped next door. Meet the Hydra, an HFC concept bike that pushes the boundaries of electric motorcycle design to a whole new place.

Designed by Anton Guzhov, Anton Brousseau and André Taylforth, Hydra’s inner workings were modeled in blueender 3Dan open-source design package often used by VR, visual effects, and CAD modelers because of the often hyper-realistic results experienced users can generate.

And yes, it should be a hydrogen fuel cell bike. That spherical goiter that pops out of the “tank” is actually a tank filled with pressurized hydrogen, which is then processed by the fuel cell to generate the electricity that powers the huge, center-mounted electric motor. A Harley Davidson inspired belt drive brings power to the rear, while the whole engine gives off something of a Confederate (now “fights“) or Curtiss appearance.

The trio put together this atmospheric, atmospheric video where the concept of the electric motorcycle is virtually assembled and then taken for a ride through an industrial, dystopian environment – but I think a bike like this should be parked right in front of something a bit Lake classic. Think of one of these parked outside the Lyric Opera House in Chicago and you get the kind of “we all live in 2022, but this guy lives in 2222” vibe that I’m trying to describe here. Give it a watch for yourself, and see if you agree.

Once you’ve done that, scroll down to the comments and let us know what you think about hydrogen-powered electric motorcycles. Would you rather see something like the battery change system from the Gogoro or “Big4 + Italy” consortium, or would a bike like this actually be more fun to get your hands on at a late night truck stop, Mos Eisley style? Let us know!
