Kirstie Alley dead at 71: Emmy award-winning actress dies after battle with ‘recently discovered’ cancer

EMMY Award winning actress Kirstie Alley has passed away at the age of 71.

Alley, who rose to fame on the 1990s sitcom Cheers, died of “recently discovered” cancer, her family announced.

Alley’s family announced her death in a social media post.

“She was surrounded by her immediate family and fought with great strength,” the statement read.

“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

The family also thanked the Moffitt Cancer Center team for their care.

“From Mother’s zest for life and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy to create, were unparalleled and left us inspired to live life to the fullest, just as she did .”

Alley won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for her role as Rebecca Howe.
