one person killed and dozens injured after high winds caused parts of a stage to collapse at a music festival in Spainthe emergency services said.

Due to what was termed “extraordinary” weather conditions, parts of the staging at the Medusa festival were destroyed in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Of the injured, three suffered serious injuries, while another 14 had minor injuries, emergency services said.

“We are completely shocked and saddened by what happened this morning,” organizers said in a statement posted on the festival’s Facebook page.

“Around 4 a.m., unexpected and strong high winds destroyed certain parts of the festival, forcing management to make the immediate decision to leave the concert area to ensure the safety of attendees, workers and performers.”

The six-day festival, which will be held in the town of Cullera, south of Valencia, has been suspended until further notice.

“We are in shock because we were 30 meters away” [from the stage]. It could have been me, it could have been anyone,” Jesus Carretero, who attended the festival with his brother, told TVE.
