New role for chief of Otago Polytech

Megan Gibbons, Executive Director of Otago Polytechnic, has been appointed as one of the new Deputy Directors of the Te Pukenga New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.

Established in 2020 as one of the seven major changes of vocational education reform, the organization brings together the country’s colleges and institutes of technology.

Dr. Gibbons has been named Deputy General Manager of the Academic Center and Learning Systems, and will lead the central program design and development function, while working with industry and subject matter experts from across the Ako Delivery business.

Dr. Gibbons said she was excited about the opportunities the new role presented.

She wanted to ensure that Te Pukenga’s delivery across the country met the needs of industry and employers, helped students thrive and focused on the future.

Peter Winder, acting general manager of Te Pukenga, said Dr Gibbons brought with him a wide range of experience from a number of positions at Otago Polytechnic and had good connections with the health sector and institutes of technology and colleges.

Megan is passionate about the life-changing power of education and has been instrumental in pioneering higher-level apprenticeships.

“Her athletics coaching reflects her constant pursuit of excellence.”
