Police call for help to solve cold case home burglary

Police are enlisting the public’s help to resolve a cold case in which a Mataura man was seriously injured after being stabbed in a house robbery.

Police were called to Main Street, Mataura around 10pm on Saturday, June 17, 2017, after an assailant allegedly broke into the man’s address and demanded cash.

The man was then stabbed and the perpetrator left the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition and had to recover from his injuries for a long time.

Despite a public appeal at the time for information and all available investigative clues, no perpetrator has yet been held accountable.

Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney, of Gore CIB, said he was sure there were members of the public who knew what happened that night and who was involved.

“To those people we want to say: it’s not too late. We still want to hear from you.

“You can rest assured that you can come to us in the strictest confidence to share any information you have.

“You may have small details that you don’t think are significant, but could be of great interest to our research team.”

Anyone with information was asked to contact 105, by phone or online.

People could also share information anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
