Princess Royal has left the British shores as she crossed the Atlantic to attend a black-tie gala event. The 72-year-old took off from Heathrow Airport Monday morning and later landed at John F Kennedy International Airport. Princess Anne was then greeted by His Majesty’s Consul General for New York, Mrs. Emma Wade-Smith, prior to her appearance at an English Speaking Union gala dinner at the Cosmopolitan Club as the guest of honor.

Her Royal Highness delivered a speech at the black-tie event.

However, Anne also embarked on an unusual journey while visiting the Big Apple.

The princess took a trip on the Staten Island Ferry, which sails five miles to Manhattan.

The New York Department of Transportation revealed that Anne had made the journey by sea.

They said on Twitter: “We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Anne to the Staten Island Ferry today.”

Anne’s visit to Staten Island also brought her to the National Lighthouse Museum in St. George.

Adrienne Abbate, a local resident and executive director at the Staten Island Partnership for Community Wellness, took to social media to discuss Anne’s visit to the Lighthouse Museum.

She said, “Staten Island is home to the National Lighthouse Museum in the former depot that supplied oil, Fresnel lenses and other supplies for lighthouses around the world.

“Today, friends of the museum gathered to support plans for expansion to one of the adjacent historic buildings.
