Royal POLL: Who should be King Charles II’s state advisers? | Royal | News

King Charles III is under increasing pressure to change the law so that only working royals can be state advisers. State Counselors are senior members of the Royal family who can be called upon to assume the official duties of the king as head of state due to illness or absence abroad. But who should he choose to support him? Vote in our poll.

Under the Regency Act of 1937, the positions are currently reserved for the spouse of the sovereign and the next four royals in line to the throne who are over the age of 21.

Currently, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice are responsible for taking on the duties of the King alongside Camilla, Queen Consort.

However, Charles can try to change this by removing non-working royals from the position.

If he changes the law, Harry, Andrew and Beatrice could be replaced by other senior royals.

The Telegraph reported that the king’s siblings, Prince Edward and Princess Anne, could be given the positions instead.

If the line of succession is removed from the law, I suggested news that Princess of Wales Kate Middleton could also be included.

It is rare that state advisers are needed – Charles and William only took the place of Queen Elizabeth II at the state opening of parliament earlier this year due to her mobility issues.

A law change would require new legislation to be passed by the Houses of Parliament.

NOT MISSING:

Counselors may be called upon to attend Privy Council meetings and sign routine documents.

However, they cannot exercise “core constitutional functions”, including Commonwealth affairs, dissolving parliament, appointing equals or appointing a new prime minister.

Queen Elizabeth II’s state advisers were Prince Philip until his death, Charles, William, Harry and Andrew.
