Salman Rushdie ‘attacker’ charged with attempted murder

The man suspected of attacking Salman Rushdie on Friday has been charged with attempted murder and assault.

“The person responsible for yesterday’s attack, Hadi Mattar, has now been formally charged with attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault,” Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt said in a statement on Saturday.

“He was charged last night on these charges and remanded in custody without bail,” the statement added.

This is a breaking story, more to come.
