A SERIAL burglar is jailed after his latest raid was foiled by a flock of angry seagulls.
Casey McDonnell disturbed the resting birds when he crawled into a backyard at 4:14 a.m.
CCTV footage of the house captured the herring gulls soaring into the sky and then crashing into McDonnell, 40, as he tried to open a back door.
He looked shocked at the sight of the… noisy and aggressive birds — who then launched a sustained airstrike on him.
Magistrates watched footage of a fleeing McDonnell waving his arms in the air to try to protect his head and face from the razor-sharp beaks of the gulls.
Police said the homeowners’ CCTV film helped them identify McDonnell as the sniper in the… Blackpool suburb of Cleveleys, Lancs, on July 30 this year.
McDonnell – who was at the time licensed out of prison – admitted to attempted burglary and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison by JPs in Blackpool.
The court heard how McDonnell, from Blackpool, has a long criminal record with more than two dozen burglaries.
