According to beauty giants The Hut Group, searches for “Halloween eyeliner” jumped 456 percent in one day last week, showing how much we love the creepy Monday.

For those who go for leather, Boots, super drug and MACoffer online tutorials on creating looks from Cruella de Vil to scary skeletons, among other things.

But if you prefer a more subtle approach and buy both products that you can reuse or select budget items, there are still clever ways to make a stylish Halloween impression.

“You shouldn’t feel pressure to look perfect,” says makeup artist Ruby Hammer. ‘Take the opportunity to play. Making your look creepy but flattering rather than weird will make it more forgiving.

Even using liquid eyeliner that’s fluid enough to draw on symbols, but doesn’t move when dry, adds a Halloween hue that’s suitable for all ages.”

Horny Devil

Get devilish with your hair (Picture: Getty Images)

If you don’t have a few plastic devil horns handy, make them with your own hair.

At the recent SS23 Undercover fashion show, hairstylists did just that by creating two little horns on either side of a center part.

While on models it was complex, cleverly hidden braids, you can recreate the pointy spikes by pulling the hair on top of the head in a tight bunch, twisting until the hair curls on its own and securing it in a loop at the crown.

Work into a spiky shape, then tie all the loose hair back into a low bun. The hair needs to have a good hold, so a mist of versatile Sam McKnight Modern Hairspray before styling will give the hair enough guts to create the shape, while another blowout will hold it all night.
