‘Top Gun 2’ becomes 7th highest-grossing film in its own country about ‘Titanic’

The ‘Titanic’ has been sunk again… because Tom Cruise‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has just caught up with the legendary blockbuster in the list of the biggest moneylenders in Hollywood history.

The high-flying sequel, which has been booming since its release in May, has now claimed the #7 spot in the highest box office sales domestically… clocking in at $662 million in tickets sold. James Cameron‘s 1997 cl*ic with a good $3 million or so at $659M.

Reports say ‘TG’ took in $7 million this weekend… which may sound relatively meager, but considering it’s now in its 11th week in theaters – that’s pretty damn impressive.

While ‘Titanic’ is in Tom’s rear-view mirror, he has many other movies ahead of him that have made a lot more money – including, in due course, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Black Panther’, … which are total domestic flights. of $678M and $700M respectively.

Some movie reporters and box offices think ‘Top Gun’ really has a shot at overcoming those two as the year goes on… ‘Force Awakens’ – are probably safe to touch.

They’ve made $200-300 million more – and it doesn’t look like ‘Maverick’ jet fuel will last that long. Unclear when Paramount will rip it out of theaters, but even if they were to keep it there until the end of the year… ‘Top Gun’ will finish at #5 all-time at best.

Still, it’s a great achievement for both Tom and Paramount – and it proves that there is still definitely a desire for people to go to the cinema even today. They’re just more selective, that’s all.
