Unknown assailants are believed to have kidnapped, raped and murdered a student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, identified as Happiness Okwa.
It turned out that the ND II student of Mass Communication won the Miss MAPOLY beauty contest on August 3, 2022.
The victim was allegedly abducted on Tuesday evening, August 9, on his way to Ipara, in Ode Remo, by some gunmen who allegedly raped her before killing her.
MAPOLY Students Union President Sodiq Ajani confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Saturday, August 13.
Ajani said in a statement signed with PR official Joy Okolie that the deceased was abducted three days ago while visiting a filming location.
“Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Students Union (MAPSU) announces the untimely death of Miss Happiness Odeh, a MAPOLY mass communication student.
“According to reports, she was abducted along the Iperu road to her destination. The deceased left Abeokuta three days ago to visit a filming location in Ipara, Ode-Remo, with the permission of her parents
Contrary to rumors, her death has nothing to do with her status as the next Miss MAPOLY. She won the award on August 3rd and the filming location she visited has nothing to do with the on-campus beauty pageant
“We sympathize with her family, friends and colleagues. May Almighty God grant us all the strength to bear this painful loss. Rest in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement read.
The SUG chairman further explained that the killers took the phone from the victim.
According to him, the police have launched an investigation to arrest the attackers.
Ajani revealed that the body of the murdered student had been deposited in the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
