Strictly Come Dancing 2022: Helen Skelton becomes the last star to sign up

Helen Skelton has been confirmed as the last celebrity to join this year’s all-star lineup for Strictly Come Dancing.

The Countryfile and former Blue Peter host was announced after her involvement with this year’s show has been speculated in recent days.

She follows the likes of Bros singer Matt Gosscomedian and actress Ellie Taylor, and Paralympic swimming gold medalist Ellie Simmonds.

Helen said, “I’m really looking forward to going on a fun adventure.

“My family and friends have always loved the show and can’t wait for me to get started.”

The news was announced on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday morning by Strictly presenter Claudia Winkleman, who returns to her position in the ballroom alongside Tess Daley.

The announcement, which completes the lineup, comes a few months after Helen’s very public wedding split from… husband Richie Myler in April after nine years of marriage.

Helen was recently confirmed as the… new presenter of a Radio 5 Live Sunday morning lock after presenter Laura Whitmore announced her departure.

It comes after a source claimed that Helen wanted to “bounce back” after her relationship collapse, by signing up with Strictly.

“It’s the perfect way to bounce back,” a source said of Helen’s rumored Strictly casting.

“Most people are absolutely desperate to avoid the Strictly Curse, but Helen would love to give her some confidence back.

Who are the judges?

Chief Judge Shirley Ballas is once again joined by fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse.

Anton Du Beke also returns to judgeafter it was confirmed that he would officially replace Bruno Tonioli.

Who are the new professional dancers?

There are four new pros joining the lineup: Vito Coppola, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley and Michelle Tsiakkas.

Which professional dancers have left?

After the 2021 season, it was announced that fan-favorite pros Oti Mabuse and Aljaž Skorjanec would not return for the 2022 series.

Will there be a studio audience?

Yes – after previous restrictions put in place due to the pandemic, the entire studio audience will return this year, while the clear dividing walls between the judges will also be removed.

When will the show return?

The BBC has revealed that the launch show for the 2022 series will be recorded on Wednesday 7 September.

Therefore, it is likely that it will air a few days later on Saturday, September 10, although the exact date of the first episode has yet to be announced.

Helen first rose to fame as a Blue Peter presenter in 2008, before presenting Countryfile in 2014.

She will start her first BBC Radio 5 Live show on Sunday morning at 10am next Sunday, after Laura resigned after four years.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on BBC One later this year.
