Thierry Henry has explained why he refuses to get carried away by Premier League leaders Arsenal and their fantastic start to the season.

The Gunners’ best ever start to a league campaign has left Mikel Arteta’s side two points away from the defending champions Manchester City.

Arsenal have only dropped points twice this season – in September when they lost to Manchester United and last weekend when they went to Southampton.

Despite his former club’s sensational form, Henry is not getting ‘carried away’ and says Liverpool’s inability to keep pace with Manchester City in recent seasons should serve as a warning to Arsenal.

“It’s 11 games, you celebrate the title after 38 games, not before that,” Henry said CBS Sports. ‘That’s me, I’ve always had that mentality.

“What we’re talking about with Arsenal now is hope. Manchester City can talk, Man City can be loud because we’ve seen it with them before and we know what it takes for a team to stay with them.

“Look at Liverpool… twice they tried to keep the pace of Manchester City, but they couldn’t. So let’s see what’s going to happen to us.

‘I don’t get carried away. But we have hope and I have a lot of hope right now.”

Arsenal went into Sunday’s Premier League game against Southampton with a run of eight consecutive wins, but gave up a one-goal lead in a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s.

Gabriel Jesus, a £50million summer signing, admitted Arsenal were ‘a bit upset’ to drop points but urged his team-mates to ‘keep calm’.

“Everyone is a little upset because we know we can win the game and get the three points,” said the Brazilian striker.

“I think they played well, but we were better than them. We give them a lot of easy balls and then we don’t score the goals with the chances we create.

‘This is the moment when you know that everyone is going to talk about us, about our achievements; I just want to say to the team to keep calm.

“We are coming back strong, playing our football the way we started the season and everything is going back to normal.

“Sometimes you fall a little bit, but you have to realize and wake up. That’s what we have to do.’

Arsenal will continue their Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, but have a Europa League game against PSV to focus on first.
